When a portion of an image has a dark portion that is in a uniform state or a portion of an image is in a non-uniform state, the difference image signal does not accurately represent the image edge.

For example, when the difference between a portion of an image in the uniform state and a portion of the image in the non-uniform state is detected, a noise signal is generated. When the noise signal is fed into the comparator, the comparator outputs a signal having a wave form having a large amplitude in accordance with the noise signal.
